Castles in the Air

''Castles in the Air'' written and performed by Cory Coffman, creator of the newly formed band 'The Cuckoo Bees'. The idea grew from a fascination with work song, specifically African-American work song, which planted the seed for most American music genres. These songs were sung in captivity to make the work seem less arduous and to create a feeling of control in such demeaning conditions. The melodies that were sung were hauntingly simple and spilling with emotion, and were often structured in a 'call and response' form which is imitated between voice and congas, singing of 'Castles in the Air', a metaphor for day dreaming.
